The Little Rockies

The Henry Mountains were the last mountain range to be explored and mapped in the lower 48 United States. These volcanic laccoliths rise nearly a mile above the immediate surrounding area which includes Capitol Reef National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The Little Rockies, a sub-range of the Henrys, lie to the southeast of the high Henrys. These Little Rockies, while smaller than the Henrys, are craggier with more loose rock and steeper slopes. The Little Rockies also have views of Lake Powell to the south, unlike the high Henrys.
