Fern’s Nipple

Panoramic view from the summit of Fern's Nipple in Capitol Reef National Park

Fern’s Nipple is a large rocky peak that sits directly atop the Waterpocket Fold of Capitol Reef National Park. Nobody knows who Fern was, but the physical description of the feature is undeniable. Views from atop this peak include most of the northern Waterpocket Fold, the Aquarius Plateau to the west and the Henry Mountains east of Capitol Reef, as well as the vast South Desert and its innumerable tablelands to the northeast. Access to Fern’s Nipple is possible via Capitol Wash or Bear Canyon, but requires good route-finding skills as well as some rock climbing ability as well as the ability to withstand exposure to significant heights.
